It looks like m43 is going to become an increasing nitch camera system going forward so we will be covering L-mount news here and at Photorumors going forward. This is certainly an interesting way to take Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fujifilm head on. In addition, we are launching a forum the l-forum, which you can join now. We have been working on this for a few days and it builds on one of the first things I wrote for LeicaRumors: The Leica SL Typ 601 Camera Review: Leica Gambles Big.
It looks like Leica is continuing to gamble big and now that Panasonic might be building bodies alongside Sigma there is a good chance that L-mount will take off into the system that I thought it might eventually become. If Leica releases an SL2 ill likely buy one, but Panasonic might offer a far more attractive body.
Time will tell if this was a good move for all of the parties involved and Leica really should have released a more feature-full camera before Nikon/Canon got into the game to ensure the health of the system. I doubt all of the current “professional” lines of cameras will survive the market moving to mirrorless, but Leica/Panasonic/Sigma combined might stand a chance of surviving against Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fujifilm. Hopefully, Olympus will join soon too.
