Petition to Add a LOG video profile to the GX85/GX80

AEjWMWqhvpwgJqU-800x450-noPad
A 43addict reader started a petition to add a LOG video profile to the Panasonic GX85/80. Please lend your support.

“In May 2016, Panasonic announced their new camera: the GX85. With its revolutionary 5-axis stabilization and 4K video, it began a new era for Panasonic users.

However, users and potential customers see themselves limited in their creative decisions because Panasonic has not included a “log” video profile.

This type of filming profile allows the camera to capture a much more neutral image that can later be retouched in post-production to the taste of the content creator.

Even cameras in the same range, like the Panasonic G7, have Cinelike D and V profiles, that allow for better color manipulation for more serious video work.

While we understand that Panasonic need to maintain a sustainable business model  by separating its product lineup, users of the GX85 feel cheated out of a basic function that is not only a must-have in the industry, but is also offered by competitors even below the price-point of the GX85.

We ask, therefore, that Panasonic introduce a firmware update to include a “log” profile or a Cinelike-V or Cinelike-D profile to Panasonic GX85, so that we, the users, we who have purchased the camera and have opted to be Panasonic customers, can make full use of what is otherwise a ground-breaking product.”

Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm Mirror Lessons Review

The Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm what you would expect form a m43 lens at this price point. Small/light, sharp/fast and splash/dust resistant, but a little over priced compared to the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-50mm. Mirror Lessons isn’t ecstatic about the lens, but it gets the job done. You can read their full detailed review here.

Panasonic is Changing How They Name Cameras

Panasonic_logo
Panasonic is simplifying their naming convention. There will only be G.GX and GH, followed by a single digit for professional, double for amateur, and triple for consumer.

“To clear things up, so Panasonic is planning to put all these flat names to reduce all three families: G, GX, GH. GM names and GF therefore pass by the wayside. The idea is this: group the cases by “form factor”. Thus, hybrid housings having a reflex look would be called now G all something, flat boxes would be called all GX. GH, they remain somewhat apart because of their very strong professional orientation video. To distinguish the level range, just use a multi-digit dialing: 1 digit for professional housing, 2 digits to the expert, 3 digits for the amateur and 4 digits for the beginner. This is exactly the logic chosen by Canon for its EOS SLR.

This has already started, but remains dependent on the industrial time. Thus, Panasonic already offers in flat cases, the GX8 (professional model) and the GX80 (amateur / expert model). This leaves room for a GX800, which could be the common replacing the GF7, GM5 and current GM1. As for G, the current G7, released in 2015, will eventually be replaced by a G8 to a more professional orientation. The range can then be broken down into Lumix G80, G800 Lumix etc. And for GH? The GH4 will he replaced by GH5 or a GH8, just to stick to the rest of the range that have already adopted the series 8? Regardless, as long as it is announced at photokina 2016.”

Olympus gaining profit again

Olympus gaining profit again
After the accounting scandal in 2011 Olympus is continuing to improve their financial result – today their stock is priced about 8x higher than the lows of 2011. From Bloomberg:

Five years ago, Olympus Corp. was caught up in the oddest of corporate scandals. Its then-CEO, Michael Woodford, uncovered an accounting scandal at the company that went undetected for years, besmirching the name of a once-proud Japanese maker of digital cameras and medical equipment.
