Olympus Fiscal Year FY2017/3 Financial Report

  • Net sales in the Imaging Business for the nine months ended December 31, 2016 amounted to ¥48,802 million (down 21.3% year on year), while operating income amounted to ¥747 million (up 654.5% year on year).
  • Ongoing moves to shrink the Imaging Business to a scale more appropriate for the shrinking market and the impact of the Kumamoto earthquake of April 2016, which caused delays in the supply of some products, resulted in lower sales for the Imaging Business.
  • In the Imaging Business, operating income rose due to progress in pushing down expenses and due to the effects of introducing new products, including the flagship mirrorless camera “OLYMPUS OM-D E-M1 Mark II.”

Panasonic GH5 Metabones Speedbooster XL Questions Answered

Newsshooter had the opportunity to test the Metabones Speedbooster XL on a pre-production GH5 and while the video results look good there are some problems. At this time the electronic connection between lens and camera isn’t working correctly and if you use IBIS there can be issues, but other than that the results look very good. Check out the full article at Newsshooter for more details.

DPReview interviewed Olympus engineers about the OM-D EM1 Mark II and came back with some interesting responses. The talked about adding even better IBIS in the future among other things via firmware, but the confirmed improvements to come are:

  • Adding ‘Auto ISO’ capability to manual video shooting
  • Allowing for control of autofocus racking speed while shooting video
  • Clarifying and enhancing customizability of continuous autofocus behavior beyond the current -2 to +2 ‘tight to loose’ scale
  • Working on the AF algorithm to improve tracking performance
  • Enable the ability to enter playback and menus while the buffer is clearing

DPReview: Panasonic FZ2500/2000

The Panasonic FZ2500 is a great video camera and will pair very well with the upcoming GH5. It’s ability to output 10-bit 4:2:2 over HDMI is unmatched in this class of camera and it will be great for a B-cam. It even compares well to Sony’s RX10 and RX100 line of cameras for photography. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this camera to someone interested in getting serious about their photography. You can read DPReview’s full review here.

Panasonic LX10/15 vs Sony RX100V

Then CameraStoreTV compare the Sony RX100V and Panasonic LX10/LX15 in the freezing cold. The Sony wins the most categories, but the Panasonic has the better lens. Panasonic would probably be far better off doing something new rather than chasing after the Sony RX100.
