Panasonic G9, Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 Coverage and Price

It seems like the Panasonic G9 is being well received by photographers and videographers even though it is at a higher price point than past G cameras. The higher price point of m43 cameras this generation has been controversial among photographers that aren’t currently invested in the system and some that were used to the systems low cost of entry, but will the introduction of the Panasonic G9 drive down the price of the Olympus OM-D EM1 Mark 2, which started the controversy? I hope Olympus decideds to permanently decrease their price point to $1,500 in the near future instead of running sales here and there. It would be refreshing to have access to a quality m43 camera around the price point that many APS-C competitors have targeted with their flagship cameras.

Sigma CEO Yamaki-san Talks About Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary And A Future Sigma Lens

According to Sigma’s CEO Yamaki-san the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN has glass specifically designed for mirrorless cameras and it has ART level performance. There isn’t a whole lot of information in this interview, but Yamaki-san promises that there will be a mid-level telephoto lens released for mirrorless in the future from Sigma.

Panasonic G9: Extensive AF/IBIS/Dual IS Testing and More

The Panasonic G9 looks like an impressive contrast based AF camera, but these early tests make me wonder how much the Panasonic GH-5’s AF can be improved. Hybrid AF seems to be the best way to fully optimize mirrorless AF performance. While the G9 and GH5 are impressive for photos it looks like Panasonic has reached the maximum level of contrast detect AF performance achievable.

Panasonic G9 vs GH5 RAW Noise Comparison and Hex Editor Hack

Eno sent out a comparison between the Panasonic GH-5 and G9 that he created using Hex Editor Neo and samples from image resource.

“I managed to hack the Panasonic G9 RAW files in a HEX editor so that ACR would open them.

Below I made a side by side RAW image comparison (with Imaging resource RAW samples) between the G9 vs GH5 at different ISO values. It can easily be seen the G9 has less noise compared to the GH5.”

I followed up with him so I could share his methodology.

“I was using “Hex Editor Neo” and changed the name of the camera in the raw file, than save it and voila:

You need to school a little bit down (with the scroll weal from the mouse) and not from the border right scroll line cause you’ll miss the name of the cameras (the file contains a lot of data and you must have precision).

Exactly replace the two lines of code circled with the ones from the GH5. Every each symbol including points (everything) must be exactly like in the above or it whon’t work.”
