New OM System OM-3 Astro mirrorless camera announced designed for astrophotography

OM System announced a new OM-3 Astro mirrorless camera designed for astrophotography:

  • Astro-Optimized Sensor Filter: Modified IR-cut filter allows 100% Hα (hydrogen-alpha) wavelength transmission—standard cameras block these, washing out red/pink nebulae. This makes nebulae pop with vivid color and detail.
  • Dedicated Astro Modes: New COLOR1 profile for red nebulae/astrophotography; COLOR2 for starry landscapes. Custom presets (C1: astro stacking, C2: starry landscape stacking, C3: handheld starry landscapes).
  • Starry Sky AF: Autofocus tuned for pinpointing faint stars.
  • High-Res Shot & Stacking: In-camera 50MP composites from 12 shots (reduces noise, corrects star trails on mounts); Live Composite for light painting without overexposure.
  • Other Highlights: 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS MFT sensor, TruePic X processor, up to 120fps burst, 6.5-stop 5-axis IBIS, Night Vision mode (red UI overlay), IP53 weather sealing, 4K 60p video.
  • Body & Design: Compact silver retro metal body (inspired by classic OM film cameras), same as OM-3 but with an “ASTRO” badge.
