8K UHDTV Keeps Getting Closer to Reality

4k was really only the start of the megapixel war for video and Panasonic has been open about this since the GH5 Launch here. Now that the HDMI 2.1 standard has been announced, 8k and 10k video is right around the corner and I imagine we will see TV’s and monitors that fully utilize the standard shortly. These technologies will be amazing for image quality, but they are going to begin killing off 24MP images since 8k starts at 33MP. Technology is advancing more quickly than you can imagine.

Why not skip all that, and go straight to 16K video?

8K is a white elephant; another example of the industry’s obession with “bigger numbers mean bigger sales” mentality. Hollywood has no interest in adopting it anytime soon, and too many workflows and pipelines are ill-equipped to manage it.

I’m MORE interested in what this means for still camera sensors, since it sounds as if this organic sensor tech is the culmination of what Panasonic was developing in conjunction with Fujifilm.
