Panasonic GH5 Video AF Sucks?

Max Yuryev covered a lot of camera systems over a short period of time on Youtube, but apparently the AF performance from the Panasonic GH5 was bad enough in his last video that he was compelled to make this 30 minute video to prove a point. The Panasonic GH5 sucks at autofocus… and I think that’s perfectly fine.

Most videographers that are going to fully utilize this camera will use manual cinema lenses designed for superior video performance. The Panasonic GH5 isn’t necessarily designed to be an entry level/enthusiast camera. Professional video cameras do not have amazing autofocus and the GH5 is up there with the best of them.

Of course consumers will ultimately decided if the GH5’s AF performance is acceptable, but it’s not affecting early sales yet. If it does affect sales then maybe Panasonic will correct AF via a firmware update similar to how Fujifilm has in the past, but time will tell.
