Panasonic GH5s Rumored To Be Coming Soon (1-2 Months)

Photorumors received an interesting tip today about a low light high-performance Panasonic GH5 in the works that could be called the Panasonic GH5s to be released in the next 1-2 months. The release of a Panasonic GH5s to compete with the Sony a7S would certainly be a compelling purchase for GH5 fans, but it could trigger the early release of the Sony a7SIII similar to Nikon’s launch of the D850, which is widely believed to have pushed the a7RIII launch ahead of the a7MIII launch. Competition is always good for consumers and Panasonic venturing into low light high-end video cameras is a welcome addition and hopefully speaks to the health of their cameras division. I wonder if the GH5s will have a tweaked 12MP or 16MP sensor for video and how good m43 low light performance can possibly get.

Update – Adorama listed a Panasonic Lumix DC-GH29 with GH5 specs today

Panasonic will likely use a Sony IMX294 STARVIS sensor for this “GH5-S” camera. Its Sony’s new “low light” MFT high dynamic range 4k sensor with 120p 4k frame rate. The current GH5 already uses a Sony IMX272 sensor today. Chipworks (Tech Insights) has already broken down and X-rayed all the components. So Google the IMX294 to get what this new Sony MFT sensor can do.

    • Maybe, but it’s security camera tech… I’ll do a post about it.

Yeah,…it’s a “security camera” sensor Sony says…lol…a “security camera” that shoots full CINEMA 4k in 10bit 120p in a MFT package?…..This “security camera” doesnt even exist and that market is WAY too small for a WAY over-spec’d chip like this. It’s developed for a far bigger market….Panasonic and Olympus cameras. lol.

Drop the “J” off it’s full name and now it’s a mirrorless camera industry sensor. This is THE one, I’d bet anything….
